Solent Hockey aim high upon BUCS return

THE Solent Men’s Hockey Team has found new life for the first time in two years.

The side look for a win on their return to the BUCS scene, as they compete in the Open Western Tier 4 Division.

On Wednesday, they host Plymouth Marjon at the Southampton Outdoor Sports Centre at 1pm.

The President, Morgan Bucci, has never seen his side play against the visitors before and is ready for the challenge

“They are travelling a long way you know, so hopefully they are jet lagged…but I think we have a really good chance.”

The group has a mixed ability of players, ranging from people who have played for years, to first-timers, however, after training together a few times, they are slowly starting to gel.

This showed in their pre-season friendly against the University of Southampton 4th team – a match they won 3-0.

Appointed captain for the first time ahead of this season, Josh Taylor, has high ambitions for his team and how they could perform.

“I’ve never captained a hockey team before, I haven’t been playing for that long.”

Aside from Plymouth Marjon, Solent will face tough tests throughout the year, playing UWE Bristol, Bath Spa and Bournemouth as they will look to win the league at the first time of asking.

They will face each side home and away, where fixtures will take place on a fortnightly basis.
