Solent Darts Premier League is back for another year

THE second annual Solent Darts Premier League returned last week at Sharkey’s Sports Bar with a record-number of 37 players competing.

Due to the influx of freshers into the society, the format has developed from two leagues to three leagues due to the increase of players.

One fresher, Ethan Bynorth, a Dorset County player said: “Obviously you want to impress everyone at the uni and show them you are as good as they think you are.”

The competition now consists of the A League, the B League and the C League with each league split into two groups.

Each night consists of a group stage and a knockout phase with the top four from each group progressing to the knockouts.

From here, the further you advance the more points you gain with the nightly winners taking home five points.

After eight weeks of competition, the finals night will be held where the club will crown the champion of each league.

At the end of the first night, the respective leagues were all topped by freshers with the 180 tracker totalling to six 180s. The highest checkouts went to Ethan Bynorth and Eltjo Kaelin with 148 and 98 respectively.

Reigning champion Temis Smith said: “I still favour myself as I would. [However], my money’s on Ethan to win it this year.”
