Solent Darts beat Birmingham to setup South Coast derby in the semi-finals

SOLENT darts beat Birmingham 15-8 at home to progress in the national University Darts UK competition.

Josh Cole was particularly impressive in the fixture, earning the Man of the Match award after winning all three of his individual games.

The draw could have seen them pitted against a University from anywhere in the country.

However, they were handed a tie close to home, against arch rivals Portsmouth.

The darts team beat Pompey earlier this season, winning 7-4 against them in the South League.

Josh said: “Very happy to be honest.

“I haven’t been playing very good darts for the last three months, so to play really well yesterday and win all my games against Birmingham, who are a good side as well, and win 15-8 was immense.”

One player on the roster is Temis Smith, who has won the Governors Cup back in the British Falkland Islands, plus the UDUK’s singles competition earlier this month.

As if he needed any extra motivation, this competition provides him with the chance to achieve a rare UDUK double for the campaign.

He said:

“We’re a very strong side, very confident side. I think that a little bit of Portsmouth and Southampton rivalry goes a long way and we take some pride in with it.

“So we always put up a good fight against Portsmouth and I think that will win that out quite comfortably.”
