Solent Cricket Team heating up before the season

After missing out on promotion last season, the Solent University Cricket team are looking to push on in the BUCS Premier South.

The team sit three months away from the start of their season in the new year. However, their training has begun – bright and early – as they use the indoor facilities at the Utilita Bowl.

Having started the previous season with two consecutive victories, club captain Huzaifa Yousafzai is feeling confident in his teammates and excited ahead of new season.

“We’ve just started and obviously we have ages till the season – we have until April.

“It’s good to see some of the boys coming back, a few of them have become stronger over the summer, and have a few new tricks and shots.”

Due to being a university team, Solent Cricket have a number of notable absentees, with former 1st team captain, Callum Harvey a big miss.

However, several cricketers have also joined the team, including batsman Noa James-Knight.

After playing at youth level for his country, Antigua, James-Knight is delighted to be back playing cricket.

“I guess that I had just missed the game in general, and just being around this group of guys, it is a good environment and I get to develop my skills every day.

“I want to just have fun and enjoy my cricket.”
