Sarina Wiegman names her 23 player squad for Euros Qualifiers

Wembley Stadium before the Finalissma in April.

LIONESSES manager Sarina Wiegman has revealed her 23 player squad for the upcoming European Qualifiers against Sweden and Republic of Ireland, which is largely unchanged.

The Lionesses will meet with Sweden at Wembley on April 5th and will then travel to Dublin to play Republic of Ireland at the Aviva Stadium on Tuesday 7th.

With a competitive last few weeks in domestic competitions like the Frauen – Bundesliga, Women’s Super League and the Liga F where at least one Lioness plays, all 23 spots were to play for.

England’s three goalkeepers remain unchanged from the last Lionesses fixtures with Mary Earps, Hannah Hampton and Khiara Keating.

Keating is yet to make her debut for England despite being Manchester City’s starting goalkeeper but she will have to fight her way past Earps and Hampton.

Wiegman’s defence remains almost the same, Leah Williamson has been named again after having to decline her last call up due to a hamstring injury.

This will be the first appearance in an England shirt for the Arsenal defender since the 11th April when the Lionesses fell short, losing to Australia 2-0.

Millie Turner also joins the defensive system after coming in for Williamson at the last camp, Lucy Bronze and Lotte Wubben – Moy also features among others.

England’s midfield is also unchanged from the last international break, young Grace Clinton features yet again and is surrounded by stars like Ella Toone, Georgia Stanway and Keira Walsh in that midfield department.

Once again, Wiegman is putting her trust in the same six forwards for the Lionesses in hopes to put their foot in the door for European qualification.

Arsenal’s Beth Mead and Alessia Russo make the squad as well as Manchester City’s left wing and right wing duo, Lauren Hemp and Chloe Kelly.

This England side have a lot to prove with these fixtures after failing to qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympics back in December.

The last time the Lionesses faced Sweden was in that unforgettable 4-0 win in the semi finals of the European Championships and they look to put a performance like that again on the pitch.

Almost 40 years ago was the last meeting between the Republic of Ireland and England with the Lionesses taking the win from Dalymount Park, 1-0 being the scoreline.
