Saints prepare for tough match against Swansea City

SOUTHAMPTON FC face Swansea City in the Championship on Saturday, their first match in two weeks due to the international break.

It will certainly be a tough fixture for the home side, who have won just twice from nine league games so far this season, placing them 17th in the table.

A win is vital if the club are to propel themselves up the order and back into contention for play-off places, in line with their pre-season expectations.

Saints fan had mixed opinions on their hopes of a positive result, with one saying: “My expectations for the game aren’t that high, I’m hoping it’s a good game and we get something out of it, but I’m not that hopeful about it.”

Another’s view was: “I feel it is a game where we can get a result. We’ve already beaten one Welsh side this year in Wrexham… I do think we should get a result, if I was to give a prediction I’d say a 3-1 Saints win, I don’t think we can get a clean sheet.”

These two sides last met in the 2023/24 season, in which the Saints did the double over the Swans, winning 5-0 at home and 3-1 at the Swansea.com stadium.

Manager Will Still will hope that these recent wins will give his side the psychological they need for victory again this weekend.

One supporter was optimistic with this in mind: “It’s a winnable game, last time they were in the Championship we won both games and the first one at home was quite convincing, the one in Wales wasn’t as convincing so I believe we can win and push on for the rest of the season.”

Striker Ross Stewart remains out injured, having pulled his hamstring in the recent 1-1 draw with Derby County.

Wellington and Juan Santos will also be absent, while Samuel Edozie remains a doubt.
