CURLING faces the issue of trying to make the sport mainstream away from the Olympics, their latest idea to push the sport, Rock League.

The competition starts today in Toronto, with six mixed gender teams facing up against each other in an unusual run of games.

There will be six squads – two from Canada, two from Europe, one from Asia and one from the United States. Each will have five men and five women on the roster.

The teams will play each other across three formats – men’s four, women’s four and mixed doubles – with all three games happening all at once.

The franchise that wins at least two of those will win the overall contest.

This will run for five days before achieving team sends out two mixed fours teams, the teams that finish in the top four will advance to the semi-finals on the 12th of April, before the winners of those games face each other in the final later that day.

As focus is on entertainment, there will be fewer ends, as well as faster shot clocks.

Fans will also be seated closer to the ice in order to immerse them more than ever before.

Despite this event in Toronto being considered a trial, it has already been announced that the competition will return next year for a five week season.
