Record breaking Chelmsford City manager set to leave the club

AFTER five years at the club Robbie Simpson managed his last ever home game at the EMJ community stadium yesterday.

He said that “One of the reasons I don’t want to be in football anymore is so that I can take my family to enjoy football matches with me and there will be no better place to bring them than back home”

Simpson managed 202 games for the club and picked up 76 wins for the Clarets.

Last season Chelmsford City achieved their highest ever league finish and points total in their clubs history.

They acquired 84 points in the league with only 10 losses. Getting the second least losses in the league behind league winners Yeovil Town.

Unfortunately Chelmsford City missed out on promotion at the hands of Essex rivals Braintree Town.

Braintree Town beat the Clarets 3-2 in the playoff semi-finals and then went on to win the final.

Simpson exclaimed “I’m very disappointed after getting so close but that was never the expectation really given the resources, we expected it from ourselves as a group though of course”

Despite this disappointment, the former Brentford and Cambridge town striker admitted he is extremely proud looking back at his achievements.

Chelmsford City chairman Spencer Gore branded Simpson as an absolute star “that he would get on with in any walk of life”

“He has overdelivered on his budget year after year and allows me to focus on taking care of everything off the pitch”.

Chelmsford City captain Cameron James also expressed his good relationship with the manager and said “Its all credit to him that he got us to the highest position that the club has ever been in”

It is extremely clear that Robbie Simpson will be extremely missed by everyone that is involved at Chelmsford City football club.
