Rams vs Saints: Hooves, Halos, and High Stakes at Pride Park

Derby County vs Southampton FC – Match Preview

Fixture: Derby County vs Southampton
Competition: Championship

Venue: Pride Park Stadium
Date: 4 October 2025

The Rams have had a mixed start to the season. They currently sit 20th in the table, just one place above the relegation zone. With only one win in their first seven or eight matches, alongside several draws and losses, the Derby faithful are preparing for another battle near the bottom. The defence has looked shaky, and home results in particular have not been convincing; however, can they get past a Southampton side who have been far from convincing?

The Saints have struggled this season; however, Will Still’s side picked up a big three points away at Sheffield United midweek, via a Ross Stewart brace in the second half. Southampton sit in 14th place, but will be hoping to start their climb up the table, as they look for an immediate return to the Premier League.

Still’s side, despite a difficult run of form, somehow still sit within three points of third place. The trip to Derbyshire is a great opportunity to gain another three points against a team closer to the bottom.

Players To Watch

As for the Saints, it is hard to look further than Ross Stewart, who fired two in for Southampton last time out, including one brilliant strike which arrowed into the top corner. After injury issues, Saints fans will be pleased to see some confidence going into Stewart.

As for the hosts, Patrick Agyemang is the one we have picked to look out for. The American forward has picked up two assists in the four games he has played this season, and will be a tricky player for the Saints’ backline to deal with.

Our Prediction

We can see Southampton continuing their climb up the table, in what is a crucial period for Still’s side to gain momentum. Derby will struggle to deal with the Southampton attack, and I can see the Saints keeping the hosts relatively quiet.

We are going for a 3-1 victory for Southampton.
