Manchester United and Manchester City are both under scrutiny over a potential age-fraud scandal which involves some of their foreign-born academy players.
Recent evidence has emerged that has shown doubts of the ages of six footballers, who have recently made moves to UK based clubs.
Some evidence has shown that some of these players, three of which have represented England at youth level, have all competed in much older age groups in their home countries.
The Daily Telegraph, who was first to break this story, has decided not to name these individuals, due to the fact that some may still be minors.
At the moment, there is no suggestion that the clubs involved had knowingly allowed these players to mask their ages, and it was parents of other academy players who raised these concerns with members of the staff.
These concerns were also brought forward to the Premier League, and the Football association.
Manchester United have issued a statement in which they have emphasised their commitment to following the rules set by the Football association and the Premier League.
“We take our responsibilities for player wellbeing and safeguarding very seriously.”
The Telegraph has also reported that Manchester City are confident that they have also followed all legal and regulatory obligations set by the football bodies.
