Eddie Howe has confirmed that Joelinton facing Arsenal would be unlikely after his new injury.
The injury occurred during their 2-1 defeat to Fulham on Saturday and he was seen in a knee brace throughout the weekend.
In some light for Eddie Howe and the club. The Brazilian is now out of his brace, however the Arsenal fixture could come too soon. Howe has said that the club will give the midfielder “every chance” to showcase his fitness.
Howe further added: “Joey was, after the game out in a knee brace just as a precaution. He is out of that knee brace now but we will assess how he is for this game. “I would say he is a doubt, but we will give him every minute we can”
Good news for Newcastle fans. As Lewis Miley, Joe Willock and Sean Longstaff are on standby to replace the 27-year old.
“I certainly feel we’ve got good strength and depth in that position currently with obviously Joe Willock, Sean Longstaff, Lewis Miley. Three quality players,” Howe added. “It does all bring something slightly different, but three quality players that can step in. Obviously Joelinton is unique and that’s why we give him every chance to be fit.”
Despite the midfielder being ruled out for 8 weeks, Howe has not fully ruled out the possibility of him playing, stating that there is a chance.
Tomorrow, Newcastle are home for the second leg of the Carabao Cup against Arsenal, with the aggregate scoreline being 2-0 to The Magpies.
