Solent University’s new look rugby team are set to take on Hampshire rivals Winchester University in their first game of the season.
With a mix of both old and new players, there is a real sense of excitement surrounding the Solent camp, ready to test their togetherness in their short time together.
Part of the influx of new players is Inside Centre, Dan McManus, who comes from a powerlifting background and add to the raw strength of the Red Waves.
While learning the ropes, McManus is also building chemistry and comradery with his new teammates, becoming an important part of a system as well as building on his strength and stamina.
From scrums, lineouts and general scrimmage, the players around the camp are getting a real feel for their system ahead of their opening game clash.
Max Freeman, longtime Player and Coach offering guidance to players both new and old, believes from their preparation Solent could even go on to fight for a league title.
Yet the Southampton based University side will need to take their first step on the journey against Winchester on the 15th, hoping for a result that will boost the squads confidence going into the 2025/26 season.
