IF you show up to your local team’s match this weekend at 3am you may be left wondering why everyone is waiting around.
The reason is that all National League games will be kicking off three minutes late at 3:03 pm as part of the 3UP campaign.
This campaign is a push to increase the amount of promoted teams to 3 in the National League, 2 of which would be automatic.
The current system means only the winners of the league progress divisions automatically, with positions 2 through 7 go through a playoff competition.
One of the teams affected by this was York City, who didn’t get promotion despite being 23 points ahead of eventual playoff winners Oldham Athletic.
The campaign has had some huge names in support, such as Neil Warnock who said the change would be “common sense” and that fear from EFL teams is the only thing preventing the change
Marlon Darragh has investigated this deeply, including a conversation with National League CEO, Phil Alexander
