Movember: Men’s mental health in sport

With November coming around the corner, Movember is coming up to help raise awareness for men’s mental health.

Although some of these athletes earn millions per year, sport can have a negative impact on their mental health.

David Beckham with his new documentary revealed how badly his mental health was , due to the amount of abuse that he received from the red card against Argentina.

In a matter of seconds his life turned upside down, as he went from hero to zero, becoming the most hated man in the country.

This would go on for several months and still affects David to this day.

This had a massive impact on not only him but his family as his parents saw their only child get terrorised by the whole country.

On top of that, Beckham’s wife Victoria was targeted by football fans who sang inappropriate chants about her , making her life a living nightmare.

Now Beckham looks to support athletes such as the likes of Harry Maguire with their mental health and how to deal with backlash from the media.
