The Winter Olympics is officially underway in Milan, Italy, with over 80 nations competing for glory.
With the stakes so high, there’s little room for error- but what happens when a freak moment strikes at exactly the wrong time?
1️⃣ Lindsey Vonn
41-year old Lindsey Vonn took to the slopes on a torn ACL this week. Despite a clean first run, her second saw her come crashing down after a bad takeoff.

Vonn was airlifted to the hospital, where she proceeded to undergo THREE surgeries on her fractured leg.
2️⃣ Vladyslav Heraskevych
Heraskevych was informed just minutes before his skeleton run that his accreditation had been revoked. The Ukrainian bore a ‘helmet of memory’ which the IOC deemed not to be free of political expression.

3️⃣ Choi Ga-on
The 17-year-old beat the expected winner, Chloe Kim, to the top step in the women’s snowboarding half pipe.

4️⃣ Jutta
Over in Speed Skating, Jutta Leerdam claimed the gold medal in the 1000m whilst breaking the Olympic record. She managed to erase nearly three-tenths of a second off the previous record, making a time of 1:12.31.

5️⃣ Medals breaking
Medals across all the sports at the Olympics have had cases of falling apart. For example, the gold fell off the ribbon of figure skater Alysa Liu whilst she was celebrating.

The Winter Olympics continues up until the 22nd February 2026, with much more sport to come.
