A Top-of-the-table clash between Merthyr Town and AFC Totton on Saturday was set to be played at Penydarren Park in Wales, on an ‘All Weather Pitch‘.
Despite this, the pitch couldn’t survive the torrential ‘Storm Bert’ weather conditions and the game was postponed, whilst Totton players and fans had made the three hour trek to Wales, in the rough winds, just to find out the game was off.
Totton then had to travel the same three hour journey back to Hampshire, just to do this all again on a Tuesday night when the game gets rescheduled, the worst possible outcome, especially for a game with such magnitude.
This has been a problem in the football pyramid for many years now, even the football league has its own struggles when it comes to rain, with many games being postponed in the championship, league one and league two.
As the winter months roll in, the chances of games being called off due to waterlogged pitches skyrocket, and it’s frustrating.
