Following years out of the ring, boxing greats Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao are set to return to the ring in Las Vegas this September.
Mayweather, 48, and Pacquiao, 47, previously shared the ring, with the American coming out victorious. However, the two legends will clash live on Netflix, 11 years later, in a mouth-watering clash for boxing fans across the globe.
Coming out of retirement for the fourth time, Mayweather will arrive at the Sphere, looking for a similar result to the pair’s fight in 2015, which ended in a unanimous decision victory.
Going to the fight, the American boasts a perfect record of 50-0 after beating Andre Berto and former UFC champion Conor McGregor in their 2017 mega-fight.
Since those professional victories, Mayweather has been occupied by several exhibitions, fighting the likes of Logan Paul and Adam Chalmers.
On the other hand, Pacquiao comes into the bout with a 62-8-3 record. The Philippine-born fighter came out of retirement last July, battling at the time WBC champion Mario Barrios to a majority draw.
Ahead of the fight, Pacquiao spoke to Sky Sports:
“Floyd and I gave the world what remains the biggest fight in boxing history.”
“The fans have waited long enough — they deserve this rematch, and it will be even bigger now that it will be streamed live globally on Netflix.
After a long standing rivalry, the pairs meeting in 2015 generated a record in PPV sales and gate receipts, and a win for Mayweather could set up a bout with Mike Tyson later this year.
