Jason Holbrook is a year into his mammouth journey around the entire UK coastline.
The 11,000 mile, 17,700 km walk around Britain is to raise awareness for men’s mental health.
In sprit of ‘Men’s Mental Health Month’ and ‘Movember’ we spoke to Holbrook about his journey so far and the importance of men’s mental health.
He said: “It’s going to take me around three years to complete and i’m a third of the way through so far. I am trying to raise awarmess for men’s mental health – not that it’s anymore important than women’s mental health, but the differnece is men don’t communicate. Women are far better at speaking about their problems and that is the key to a healthy mental state. Suciside rate in men is 4 times higher than it is in women.”
Holbrook empthaised that there is always someone to speak to.
He said: “Open up to freinds and family or even a stranger. Many people have come up to me during this journey and poured their hearts out to me, speaking is always the answer and sometimes it’s easier with a stranger.”
Holbrook told us how being outside helped him through mental health issues he faced himself and recommended the outside as a way to clear the mind.
He said: “Going outside and being with nature helped me. You can walk the same path five times a day and it will be different every time, it can give you a needed distraction.”
