ENGLAND boss Gareth Southgate says his call-up of Manchester United teenager Kobbie Mainoo to the senior England squad could set him on the road to stardom.
Mainoo’s late addition comes after he’s stellar performance in United’s 4-3 Win against arch rivals Liverpool, in a post on instagram Mainoo wrote: “it’s an honour to receive my first senior call-up”.
The 18-year-old came through United’s academy and made his senior debut against Charlton aged 17 last season in the Carabao Cup,
Injury in pre season delayed his debut in the Premier League this season but eventually his debut came against Everton back in November, He has made 20 appearances this season scoring twice in the process.
“I think Kobbie is doing brilliantly for a younger player.” said Southgate. The Red Devils midfielder has represented England at U17s and U19s level but could make his International senior debut before even making an appearance for the U21s.
Mainoo has shown a lot of adapting for a 18 year old by playing a holding role and playing a box to box midfielder role which is considered his best position.
