IN Hamble’s recent match Captain, Matt Casey, played his first full 90 minute game after coming back from injury.
Casey has been out of action for the past 3 weeks with an Achilles and ankle injury, which meant Will Gange had to step up and temporarily take over his role.
Being Hamble’s Captain and playing in the midfield was entirely different for The Monk, as he usually plays up front in the number ten.
Gange led the team to victory six times as captain, including their Russell Cotes Cup tie match against Colden Common, where they won 3-2.
Manager Matthew Gregory said: “He done alright, it was a different role for him. He had to come into the midfield because of all the injuries we’ve had. He did really well, but he’s now picked up a hamstring injury, so he’s out for the moment.”
A week later, Casey was back and playing his first full 90-minute game, where he scored a brace against the Winchester-based team, securing a 12-0 victory.
Gregory said: “We’re doing well in the cups, probably want to be doing a bit better in the league as we currently sit 15th.”
The season wasn’t looking great for Hamble FC as they currently have multiple players out on injury, but the newly signed youngsters have risen to the occasion and have been undefeated in the last seven games.
Gregory said: “They’ve settled in well and quite quickly. Lots of the lads know each other already, so that’s one of the good things. All the young lads we brought are 17 years old, and they know each other, so it’s easy.”
