Former Saints hero, now unemployed after League Two failure

The man who guided Southampton to back to back promotions, has left his position as manager at league two club Tranmere.

Nigel Adkins, 59, was appointed manager of Tranmere back in September 2023 after a short technical director role. However, despite being a boyhood Tranmere fan and a local lad, Adkins could only guide his Tranmere side to 16th in last year’s campaign.

This year, the club have slumped down to 22nd, just two points above the drop zone, leaving the fans at the club disgruntled for many months.

Adkins’ previous side started the season well, which saw them sit in 4th place after 4 games, however since then, wins and points have been extremely hard to pick up, resulting in their ongoing battle with relegation battlers Morecambe and Carlisle.

Current chairman of Tranmere Mark Palios, 72, was known to be close friends with Adkins, making Rovers fans believe this is the reason Adkins was never sacked.

The club were projected to challenge for the top end of the playoffs, with Palios stating the club were…

“better prepared for this season than any other”

Despite this claim, Tranmere are 24 points away from the playoffs.

However there may be better days to come for the super white army.

Tranmere have recently been linked with new investors from overseas. Names such as Rihanna and ASAP Rocky have been hinted as part of a consortium to takeover the Wirral based club.

The chances of this takeover were boosted last week, when ASAP Rocky was given his verdict of his alleged assault with a firearm charge. ASAP Rocky was found not guilty of all charges, thanks to help from his lawyer, Joe Tacopina, who is set to be the main leader of the new consortium.

Will good times return to Tranmere, or will their EFL status be removed?

Whoever is taking over from Adkins’ role has 13 games to save the football club.
