Footballer put in coma after crash on the M27

Jordan Chiedozie, who plays for Southern League side Bashley, stopped at the hard shoulder on the M27 to change a tyre before he was hit by a 44 year woman who was allegedly drink driving.

The Former AFC Bournemouth footballer, was returning from his game against Tavistock with the club’s physio, Reighan Taylor, before the incident happened at 22:30 on Saturday.

The offender was arrested on suspicion of driving above the legal alcohol limit and causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

Bashley’s scheduled home match against Thatcham Town has been postponed following the incident.

The club said in a statement that Reighan was not injured but “obviously has suffered severe trauma”. Following the Doctor’s decision to put him in an induced coma.

Bashley Manager, David Lewis said “Everyone at the club is completely stunned by what happened, and our thoughts at the moment are far more with Jordan and his family and with Reighan, than they are with football.

Bashley chairman, Steve Lewis said “Our Bashley football family are heartbroken by this news and still trying to come to terms with the tragic events that occured after our game on Saturday. We are all together in wishing Jordan and Reighan the deepest of love and well wishes.”
