England Young-‘Star’ Jacob Bethell set to make Test debut against New Zealand

Warwickshire's 21-year-old batter Jacob Bethell is set to make his Test debut on Thursday for England against New Zealand.

JACOB BETHELL has been named in the England team to face New Zealand for the first match of the series giving the left hander a Test debut on Thursday in Christchurch.

England were forced into making some late changes to their line-up as Jordan Cox was ruled out of the series having sustained a broken finger during a warm-up game.

This meant England were left without a specialist wicketkeeper in the squad forcing vice-captain Ollie Pope to take over keeping duties.

As a result of donning the gloves, Pope will now bat further down the order opening up a spot in the line-up for Bethell to come in and bat at number three.

Despite the unanimous agreement over Bethell’s talent, many have questioned whether the Bajan born batter has enough red ball experience to make the difficult step up to test cricket.
