Eastleigh vs Reading: Highlights from their FA Cup clash

EASTLEIGH FC produced an FA Cup miracle on Sunday by beating Reading in the final minutes of the fixture.

Paul McCallum starred in the game scoring both goals in their 2-1 victory at the Silverlake Stadium.

The south coast side’s goal scoring machine was incredibly proud of his teams performance.

He said: “We performed very well on Sunday and every man played their part in the game.

“The first half we were absolutely brilliant and came out very strong, we hung in there, stuck to the game plan and got the winner in the end.

“They’re two leagues above us so when they are going into the second half behind a national league side we know they will come out and try and dominate the ball.

“But with the chances we had, we deserved the win.”

The Spitfire’s will now progress onto the third round of the competition, and face either Newport or Barnet, depending who comes out on top in their replay.

McCallum also gave us an insight into his opinions on facing either side :

“We are happy because it’s another chance for us to progress in the competition.

“It’s something that could be really great for the club and even better for the supporters.”

However, Eastleigh’s win wasn’t the only standout of the game…

The Reading fans which attended the game performed a protest early on in the first half due to the ongoing issues at the club.

The Royals have had ongoing points deductions due to unpaid staff and players.

The protest held the game to a halt but that only spurred Eastleigh on, didn’t act as a distraction, and helped them take their victory in the second round.
