SOUTHAMPTON striker Che Adams turned up at Redbridge Secondary School today for the EFL’s week of action.
He collaborated with the schools engagement co-ordinator, Caitlin Morris who takes care of Saints Foundation special ‘community of Champions’ who work full-time in nine various schools throughout Southampton.
Community Champions puts Saints Foundation staff in nearby schools full-time to help students who find it challenging working in a usual classroom workspace.
The goal is to have an immense, long-term support for challenged students to inspire a change in their attitude towards schoolwork.
Adams spoke about the rewarding experience he engaged in;”I’ve just been here playing with the kids to give back to the community, and especially the Saints Foundation do an amazing job helping kids.
“I think it gives them a good role model to look up to and if they want to go into football, it shows that all you have to do is work hard and push for your goals.”
The Scottish International further commented;””I really enjoy it and everyone was a kid growing up wanting to see their local footballers come to their school, to see their smiles is always amazing.”
In 2022 they worked with 753 students however this year the figure will rise with more schools gaining a community of champions position.
Southampton holds some of the least successful GCSE rates in England, for adolescents approaching higher education.
There’s a 25% inequality gap for young pupils aiming to achieve GCSES classified as a level 2 qualification.
Before the scheme commenced 1 in 10 people felt their working careers would go nowhere.
One member of the group explained the life changing impact Adams has had on his education;”
He has helped me improve my attendance. He has also increased my confidence in school and at home such as speaking to other teachers.
“When I had trouble I wouldn’t speak to people as I got scared. But now I always ask for help.”
