Champions League combined XI’s

TWO round of 16 second leg games are on tonight Josh Jablonski and I pick our combined XI from each game using their starting line up.

Defence:

Costa has been the more consistent Goalkeeper throughout the season and we believe that he has made less mistakes.

Even tough Ben white has been playing out of position at right back he has been impressive thus far progressing the ball forward has been solid defensively as well, both attributes are not often seen with a fullback.

Pepe is synonymous with the Champions League so it was impossible to leave him out of the team.

Saliba has been one of the best if not the best centre back in the Premier League this season as Arsenal top the table.

Arsenal have not had a consistent left back due to injuries whereas Wendell has been playing throughout the season.

Midfield:

As expected The Gunners dominate the midfield however, we believe that rice plays better as the eight running box to box.

Varella does play as a six consistently and will provide the cover needed as both full backs are up the pitch as well as Rice supporting.

Odegaard has been the best 10 in the Premier League and one of the best midfielders in the world with very few exceptions and was a no brainer when making this team.

Attack:

While only using the starting XI for the team there was no out and out striker, however Havertz has been playing much better in recent weeks and has now started scoring much more.

Saka has proven him self time and time again performing for a few seasons now and is taking on a pivotal role in the north London’s side hope to lift the premier league trophy.

Galeno is now entering his prime and in also entering scoring form this season while Arsenal’s left hand side is constantly being rotated.

Defence:

Ter Stegan has been the best keeper in La Liga for many years and has slightly edged it over Meret who has been in Naples for six years now.

Napoli have been poor defensively despite winning but Di Lorenzo has been stand out for us.

Cancelo had to make the team somehow even if he is starting left back tonight he can play on the right hand side and has many times.

Koude has been shifted from right back to centre half where he played for the majority of last season.

Araujo has been in the back line for the Catalan side for years now and is proven to be one of the best there.

Midfield:

Lobotka and Traore have both been immense together this season constantly creating chances.

The pair matched with Gundogan to balance the midfield three with his experience to know what pass to make and when.

Attack:

Seeing a prolific striker such as Osimhen on the right wing seems unusual but both Lewendoski and him had to be in the team and with his pace he will terrorise defenses.

Kvaratskhelia may not have scored yet in the Champions League but has 10 in the Serie A this season and has been providing assists all season long.
