LINDEN Tree captain Jordan Payne is confident his side can clinch The Bishops Waltham league title this season.
The Old Bursledon based side remain unbeaten in their opening fixtures so far after beating Hedge End Club away last night in both doubles and singles matches, making the final score 4-5.
It was the captain who hit the match winning checkout of 64, to seal the two points on Monday evening.
Despite only playing two games in the campaign thus far, the 25-year-old thinks his team can take the league trophy home to The Linden Tree pub:
“I think we’ve got a good chance, the thing with the winter league is it’s always random.
“Some leagues are drawn out, but in this one it’s a completely random order and it’s all dependant on the draw.
“But if we are all on song over 10 or 11 weeks we’ve definitely got a great chance, but like I said, it’s all dependant on the draw.”
Only four out of eleven teams have claimed victory in both of their winter season openers, The Tree being one of them, so they currently sit 4th in the league table.
Regardless of their fantastic start, Jordan admits it is hard to keep his determination levels flying high:
“I am passionate about the game. When you put so much time into it like I do, playing at least three times a week, it’s hard not to be passionate about it.
“But there are times you want to rip your hair out during the game because it can be horrible and you feel like the worst player on the planet. But in the end it all sort of comes back.”
The team are set to face Priory A next week, who are yet to win a district league match-up.
