Bristol 2’s 1-6 Solent 1’s

Solent Men’s 1st’s came from a goal down to crush Bristol by six goals to one thanks to braces from Michael Goddard and Sammy Comrie along with a cool finish by Dani Piccioni.

Comrie converted Sam Pearce’s out-swinging corner to restore parity after 22 minutes.

Goddard then sweeped home the second thanks to excellent work by Comrie’s surging run.

Comrie then earned himself a second goal as he tucked away a fierce shot into the bottom right-hand corner.

Piccioni netted his second of the season after Comrie smashed his effort against the post, only for the Spaniard to nip in and put Solent four goals to the good, just before the break.

Within the opening minutes, Bristol had a great chance to take the lead. Bristol’s number 9 was denied by Daniel Baverstock’s outstretched boot.

Solent did well to deal with Bristol’s early pressure. The goal came after relentless action in Solent’s half, a deep free kick evaded Baverstock and landed into the roof of the net.

Similarly to the first period, Solent were put to the test as Bristol came out ahead of the second half all fired up.

The Bristol number 9 had a few glorious chances. A tight angled shot whisked just past the post before a combination of Jack Bunclark’s slight deflection and Baverstock’s hand denied a point-blank effort denying any chance of a comeback for the side who still remain bottom of the league.

Solent mainly dominated the midfield thereafter; flying challenges from captain Pearce, Alex Masters doing well to consecutively control matters in the middle of the park and debutant Ben Hoare preventing any easy passes into the hosts’ attacking position.

The visitors didn’t let the four goal lead hamper their progress. Christian Müller rifled a 25-yard curler against the bar: the Dane so unlucky not to grab his first goal for the team.

It was then Goddard who calmly slotted past the ‘keeper for the fifth, before Mason Joseph-Williams added one on 90 minutes, with his first touches of the game.

Solent move up to 4th on 7 points with four games of the season remaining after the Christmas break.
