HERE’S a behind the scenes of Winchester City, a semi-pro team in the seventh tier of English football. We looked at the trials and tribulations two of the volunteers face.
As their match on Saturday (against Hungerford) was postponed, the Citizens took this as an opportunity to get some well needed training in.
On top of this, Media team manager at the club Saj Rahman also took this opportunity to get some work done, as the club had a media day.
We asked him about the struggles he faces working at a club with limited facilities;
“On Tuesday I had to wait right until an hour before kick off to release the lineups just because we weren’t sure whether all the players could make it on time Merthyr away, in the middle of Wales on a Tuesday night. Stupid scheduling but what can you do.”
Saj also explained his roles for the club’s media, saying;
“Sometimes I’m on photography, sometimes I’m on Twitter, sometimes I’m on Instagram and sometimes I’m on all of them for a game but it’s a matter of doing what’s needed for the club and to aid fans who can’t make the games and make sure they enjoy it as much as if they were there.”
We also spoke to welfare officer Ali Henderson, who also runs the bar. She explained how important her role is saying that;
“I think the bar is so important as it brings all the fans together, the great part about our league is that you can drink whilst watching the games. I enjoy it I like getting to know the home fans, the away fans.”
They play Walton and Hersham on Tuesday the 31st of October, and the Citizens currently sit in 14th.
