Green Bay Packers propose rule to ban ‘Tush Push’ popularised by Philadelphia Eagles.
Philadelphia Eagles are notorious for their play ‘Tush Push’ also known as the ‘Brotherly Shove’ in recent years where in some words it is just a Quarterback sneak which gains the necessary yards needed for either a new fresh set of downs or a touchdown.
Fans around the league wanted it banned when it was first redeemed an unbeatable play due to the size and strength of the Offensive linemen but the NFL ignored their request.
The Green Bay Packers have put in a proposal to ban it completely from the league and playbooks after the Eagles win in Superbowl 57 over Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs.
It has been very effective for the Eagles since the start but it especially helps when the Quarterback Jalen Hurts can squat 600lbs. The play had Hurts tied 5th overall for the most rushing touchdowns in the 2024 season (14). Many NFL teams had tried to replicate the play but in their own fashion however none has had the same success.
The proposal was anonymous but an NFL journalist soon released that it was the Green Bay Packers, the Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott who is one of four coaches on the committee was soon confronted by the media at the recent NFL Scouting Combine on which he announced ‘there has always been a risk of injury… I just feel like player safety and the health and safety of our players has to be at the top of our game’.
The competition committee has a month to prepare their own arguments before the annual meeting, which starts on March 30th.
