Al Shabab beat Al Riyadh 2-1 on Tuesday night, coming from behind at the Al Shabab FC Stadium.
It was a first league win for the new Al Shabab manager Faith Terim, following on from a 3-2 defeat to Al Ahli in Jeddah.
Despite the difference in quality between the 2 team, Al Riyadh started the game off on the front foot. Forcing an early save out of Al Mayouf in the 17th minute.
Al Shabab was putting constant pressure on the Al Riyadh goal but the best chance of the half was from Konate, who’s chested bound shot was saved miraculously by Al Mayouf who scooped the ball off the line with all the Riyadh players adamant the ball had gone in.
Going into the second half it was once again Al Riyadh on the front foot and the pressure eventually paid off in the 55th minute after Al-Shehri calmly slotted the ball into the bottom corner.
It looked like it was going to be a long afternoon for Al Shabab, but up stepped Podence, who collected the ball on the halfway line ran the full length of the Riyadh half, skimmed past 2 defenders before launching a shot in the top left corner in off the crossbar. An outstanding strike that took everyone by surprise.
The momentum was now in Al Shababs favour, and it took till the 97th minute for Hamdeallah to slot in the winner for Al Shabab and complete the turn around.
