AFC Totton suffer injury crisis as they dispatch Chelmsford City

AFC TOTTON bounced back from mid-week disappointment to win 2-1 against Chelmsford City and move up to third place in the National League South.

The Stags fell to a 2-0 defeat away at Bath City last Tuesday, ending their seven game unbeaten streak across all competitions.

However Totton were struck with a quartet of injuries against Chelmsford as Brandon Haunstrup, Craig Tanner, Lee Hodson and Tony Lee all left the field with injury concerns.

A frantic start to the game saw three goals in the opening 20 minutes, with both teams scoring within the first five minutes of the match.

Totton broke the deadlock three minutes into the game as Tanner floated the ball to the back post from a corner, with Lee on hand to score his 12th goal in all competitions this season.

However two minutes later Chelmsford equalised through Lyle Taylor as he latched onto a deflected cross to flick his header over goalkeeper Matt Hall.

The goals kept flowing at the Snows Stadium as The Stags retook the lead in the 20th minute through Christie Ward.

The second half saw both sides spurn golden opportunities to add to their goal tally in a half that remarkably didn’t alter the scoreline.

The visitors came closest to scoring in the final five minutes of the encounter, as Declan Rose cleared the ball off the line from a Chelmsford corner.

AFC Totton travel to Macclesfield this Saturday in the first round proper of the Emirates FA Cup, The Stags only ever making the second round proper once in their history.
