QUEENS Park Rangers winger Ilias Chair faces jail in Belgium after a court found him guilty of assaulting a truck driver with a rock, but the Moroccan international will continue to play for the Hoops.

A court in Antwerp, where the Morocco international grew up, sentenced Chair to jail for a year with a further 12 months suspended on Friday morning.

Chair is still in the UK and QPR issued a statement, saying; “The club are, and have been, in regular contact with Chair’s legal team regarding a charge of assault which has been made against him.

“The legal proceeding is yet to reach its conclusion. As such, the club will be making no further comment at this stage”.

The victim, who was named Niels T. in court, suffered a severe skull fracture which was two centimetres long and was taken to hospital at Reims where he remains in critical condition.

The 26-year-old has also been ordered to pay the victim £13,400 in compensation for his injuries whilst the Moroccan’s brother Jaber, has also been jailed.

Chair will still be available to play in the London’s club home fixture against Rotherham United on Saturday.

He has made 31 appearances for the QPR so far in all competitions so far this season, scoring four goals and assisting five.
