SOUTHAMPTON have today released an article on their website, announcing plans to move away supporters from the Northam Stand in order to improve the atmosphere at home matches.
This change is to make room for a home-fan only safe standing area behind the northern goal.
In a club statement, the new proposed ‘red and white wall’ will undertake preparations in the coming months. With this, the construction is likely to take place in the close season.
There are further plans to find a more suitable location for the Family stand.
Phil Parsons, CEO of Saints said: “We’ve been listening to fan feedback and we know moving the away end, to create a full home end in the Northam, is something a lot of our fans have been wanting for a long time.”
“Russell and the team support the changes and are looking forward to playing in front of a full home Northam end.”
“We’re a club trying to make things happen on and off the pitch and challenge the status quo.”
Premier League and Championship clubs were granted the right to fill safe standing areas at the start of the 2022/23 season, with various clubs across both divisions taking part.
Designated standing was prohibited across the top two division in England since 1989.
