DURING the month of November, Solent’s Darts society raised £933 for the Movember cause.
They put together a range of activities throughout the month to raise money, including a pub quiz on Sunday, 30th November.
The Society also put any usual match day fines towards the cause, giving them more streams and funnels towards raising such an impressive sum.
I spoke with two of Solent Darts’ Social Secretaries, one being Callum Edlin, who believes this month has been a great success.
He said: “It’s been very successful to be fair, we’ve gained over £900 almost a thousand […] its been really good to bring the society together as well.
”Because we’ve got people that can’t grow any facial hair that we can laugh at every week when they put in their photos and have nothing to show for it.”
Movember is a mightily important cause every November as many Solent societies attempt to raise awareness and money for men’s mental health by growing moustaches for a month without shaving.
Prostate Cancer will affect 1 in 6 UK men during their lifetime and is the second most common cause of cancer death in men.
I also spoke with another Social Secretary, Josh Spencer, who spoke about everything they did in order to raise awareness, and how proud they were of smashing their target of £500 at the first time of asking, after being founded almost 13 months ago.
He said: “I’m absolutely thrilled with how it’s gone.
”Well over what we imagined. I mean we put our target at 500, I’m really happy with boys for putting their effort in.”
To further help in the efforts to raise awareness for the cause, the boys put together weekly social media posts to display their efforts (many better than others!) at growing a moustache.
Spencer added: “Thank you for the Lion for hosting us, I’m really happy with how its worked out. We’ve made a few social media posts, the boys have all put their five pence in and it’s all come out perfect.”
