Solent Men’s Volleyball Team Eye Up a Semester Unbeaten

SOLENT men’s volleyball team are aiming to go a semester unbeaten with a win this week.

They face a strong Bristol side, who they lost to last season, in their final match before the Christmas break.

The squad narrowly missed out on a play-off place last year on the final day, but are now in a much stronger position to be in promotion contention by April.

Last week, a 3-1 win against Cardiff’s second team also saw them progress in the Cup.

One reason for the improvement thus far is the leadership roles that returning second years, such as Jakub Richardson and Ryan Howell, have taken.

This has helped first years to gel with the rest of the team quickly, creating good chemistry on the court.

Jakub said: “We showed a lot of strength as a team, they were probably better than us but we powered through and won, so hopefully we lead the momentum through in our game against Bristol.”

Ryan said: “Great improvements from our team, Cardiff have a strong defensive team, but we were breaking through it everytime and came out with a huge win.

“Now we’re ready to move that momentum onto Bristol.”

The side are understandably brimming with confidence and are eagerly anticipating the crunch clash this week.

Jakub added: “We’re feeling quite positive coming off of that win [against Cardiff], if we win it we go a semester unbeaten, which is quite an achievement.”
