OVER 1,600 people lined the streets of Southampton to take part in the Cancer Research Shine Walk.
The 10k event began at Guildhall Square at around 7:30pm on Friday, October 11, with the walk taking attendees around some of the biggest landmarks in the city.
Richard Andrews Memorial, St Mary’s Stadium, and the Bargate were among the sights seen from the walkers with over £170,000 raised for charity.
The streets were lit up throughout the course as the competitors dressed up to unite against cancer.
Jenny from Southampton took part and she revealed why the event was so important to her.
She said: “I was diagnosed with stage two breast cancer in September 2022. I was treated very quickly and kindly at Southampton Hospital with a lumpectomy and five days of radiotherapy.
“It is all thanks to medical science, technology, education, and research that I was able to have targeted effective treatment.
“It was done really quickly which I was really grateful for.”
The Shine Night Walk moves onto Cambridge and Leicester on Saturday, October 19. The event costs £17.49 to sign up and it occurs in many cities up and down the country.
