The Launch and Fall of Halo: A PR Disasterclass.

A BRAND NEW social media account named ‘Halo’ was launched, created as the sister page of ‘Sky Sports’ in a forward-thinking move to provide a more representative and inclusive stage for women’s sports content.

But upon it’s launch, it immediately did the exact opposite, and I guess you could say Sky’s halo has slipped a bit.

Ordinarily, Sky is an upstanding, professional and immensely popular broadcaster, who are pretty bang on the nail with their marketing and content.

Not this time.

Halo, instead, succeeded in offending women all over the globe, using stereotypes about perceived “girly interests and hobbies” outside of sport to rationalise and simplify men’s sports content for a female audience.

This ill-advised attempt at creating what was meant to be a safe space for female sports fans has angered many, leading to the account’s immediate deletion.

An absolute PR disasterclass…
