The infamous curse on women’s football strikes Everton

EVERTON have suffered two ACL injuries in their squad, just eight days apart.

Aurora Galli was the first Everton player to tear their ACL in three years, after she went down in the Toffees’ first game of the season.

Inma Gabarro was the team’s second sufferer of the devastating injury, having been stretchered off after just eleven minutes in last Sunday’s game against Manchester United.

Everton boss Brian Sorensen said today that despite the injuries, his team is “quite resilient” and that “they have handled it really well.”

“It’s a big blow. It’s two really good, high-profile players for us,” Sorensen said. “It’s been tough, especially with the small squad we have, but I think the girls have handled it well.”

It was confirmed by the club today that they have recalled Macy Settle from her loan spell at Blackburn Rovers.

They also said that she will be eligible to feature in their upcoming game against Arsenal this weekend at the Emirates.

If the decision has come as a direct result of Everton’s current long-term injury woes, it may not work as a tactic again for Sorensen.

Ines Pereira is Everton’s other loanee, but a goalkeeper, currently playing in Spain for Deportivo de La Coruna.

They will have to hope that no more major injuries hit their squad until they are able to replenish the side in the January transfer window.

“We take everything into consideration and make sure, especially with this small squad, we need people to be healthy,” Sorensen said.

“We have to look forward to the squad we have, and keep them as healthy as we can because we can’t afford losing more.”
