IT’S cupid season and we at Solent Sports News love a thematic feature.
For all the gossip and drama that comes with professional sport, we decided to celebrate the power pairs and all the ‘It couples’.
Sam Kerr and Kristie Mewis
The pair have been submerged into headlines this week following the conclusion of Kerr’s trial after she was accused of racially aggravated harassment towards a British police officer.
The Australian striker was found not guilty, and the pair promptly returned to baby-arrival and wedding planning.
U.S. National Team midfielder, Mewis, announced her pregnancy in November last year.
Magdalena Eriksson and Pernille Harder
‘Hardersson’ are a fan-favourite couple that have played together at Linköpings FC, Chelsea FC and currently FC Bayern Munich.
They are active advocates for LGBTQ+ rights and pledged 1% of their salaries to the charity Common Goal.
Marie-Philip Poulin and Laura Stacey
The Montréal Victoire and Team Canada teammates received online attention after a viral tweet:
Christen Press and Tobin Heath
The U.S. Women’s National Team forwards have won it all from domestic competitions in the NWSL to back-to-back FIFA World Cup wins.
They are CEOs of re—inc, a company they founded in 2019 with Meghan Klingenberg and Megan Rapinoe, with “the mission to re-imagine the status quo”.
The RE-CAP Show is a popular unfiltered podcast hosted by ‘Preath’.
Tara and Hunter Woodhall
The Olympic and Paralympic athletes were the Paris 2024 It couple.
Tara won Olympic gold in the long jump, and Hunter finished on top of the podium in the 400m T62 race.
Julie and Zach Ertz
The college sweethearts reached the summit in both kinds of football.
Julie was a back-to-back FIFA World Cup winner, and her tight-end husband won the Superbowl with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2023.
Zach continues to play but for the Washington Commanders, and Julie retired from professional soccer in September 2023.
They set up the Ertz Family Foundation which provides sporting and education opportunities, and family support in local communities.
J.J. and Kealia Watt
The Watt’s are another both-kinds-of-football couple: J.J. played as a defensive end for the Houston Texans and Arizona Cardinals. Kealia played professionally for the Houston Dash and Chicago Red Stars, before retiring in 2021.
The pair also invested in Burnely FC in 2023.
