THE Battle of the East: District versus Empire
Audi Field hosts Gotham FC today in week six of the National Women’s Soccer League 2025 campaign.
Their last meeting back in 2024 saw Hal Hershfelt score a late equaliser to take the match to 1-1.
Jonatan Giráldez’s side advanced to the NWSL Championship final after winning 3-0 on penalties – they lost the final 1-0 to Orlando Pride.
Last weekend, Gift Monday’s goal gave Spirit three points over the Pride.
Gotham however are looking to bounce back after a 4-1 mid-week loss to Portland Thorns, Esther Gonzalez scoring the only goal for the Bats.
Spirit continue to struggle with injuries to their roster; star winger Trinity Rodman is taking time away to recover from an ongoing back injury.
They currently sit third in the league table, with twelve points in five games.
Gotham are closely behind in fourth, with eight points in six games.
