CHICAGO Bears cornerback Jaylon Johnson has requested a trade away from the struggling NFL franchise.
Johnson is a free agent at the end of the season and has failed to agree terms on a new deal in Chicago, despite both parties seemingly wanting to get one done.
With the NFL trade deadline looming, the Bears have granted the 24-year-old permission to seek a new team, with this being the last chance they will have to receive compensation for his services.
Johnson was drafted in the second-round of the 2020 NFL Draft from Utah and quickly established himself as a key figure in Chicago’s secondary.
He has started 45 games over the first four years of his career and has recorded two interceptions this season, including one against the Las Vegas Raiders which was returned for a touchdown earlier this month.
The Bears have struggled for consistency in recent years and if the season ended today, they would have two of the top-five picks in next year’s draft following a trade with the Carolina Panthers in March.
Trading Johnson would give the Bears further picks as they attempt to rebuild their franchise after many years of suffering.
