Greenland or ‘Red, White and Blueland’?

THE 2.166 million km2 expanse of land owned by Denmark has been in the headlines following U.S. President Donald Trump’s declaration to purchase Greenland.

Georgia Representative Buddy Carter officially revealed the ‘Red, White and Blueland’ Act of 2025

To the New York Post, Carter said: “America is back and will soon be bigger than ever with the addition of Red, White and Blueland.”

Fun fact: The name ‘Greenland’ comes from Erik The Red who came across the land after he was exiled.

He ended up feeling quite lonely, so sent back word of this Greenland in hopes of attracting new settlers.

However, scientists say that the land actually was pretty green more than 2.5 million years ago.

In response to Trump’s, shall we say, flabbergasting plans, a petition was launched in Denmark to purchase the state of California.

More than 200,000 signatures were gained for the satirical petition: “Mickey Mouse in a Viking helmet? Yes, please.”

Trump’s potential shopping list also includes making Canada the “51st state” and the “taking” of Gaza.

Greenland is often viewed as nothing but a barren snowy wasteland like the planet Hoth (ask your local Star Wars nerd).

But did you know they in fact have their own men’s and women’s national football teams?

To be fair, neither did we, but they recently unveiled their new kit online in partnership with Hummel

Greenland’s 2025 Away kit.

Their 2025 away shirt is a nod to the land’s glaciers and traditional Greenlandic avittat patterns.

Due to not being a fully independent nation, the team is unable to compete in international competitions, which is a requirement of UEFA and FIFA.

Head of Greenland’s football association, Kenneth Kleist managed to find a loophole though.

The CONCACAF federation allows autonomous territories to join, and Greenland have submitted an application.

Pending they are accepted, they could find themselves first competing against teams from North, Central and South America, and the Caribbean nations and territories.

In addition to grass football, they also have men’s and women’s futsal teams.

Due to the FIFA and UEFA situation, they compete in the Nordic Futsal Cup and the Futsal Week competition.

Trump and his administration may look at Greenland’s kits and excitedly notice they wear the same colours as the star-spangled banner.

Greenland’s original settler earned his name for his hot-headedness and short temper.

It might be worth noting that.

In the Folketing (Denmark’s Parliament), lawmaker Anders Vistisen summarized Denmark’s thoughts: “Let me put it in words you might understand. Mr Trump, f**k off!”
