PSV Eindhoven moved 12 points clear of Feyenoord in the race for the Eredivisie title after a comfortable 2-0 win over Almere City.
Luuk de Jong scored twice to seal all three points for the hosts, temporarily giving them a 13-point advantage at the top of the table.
Feyenoord had their chance to respond a day later against third-placed FC Twente at De Kuip, but the Rotterdam club missed a host of chances, including a penalty by Santiago Gimenez in the second half which was saved by Lars Unnerstall.
Elsewhere, Ajax showed further signs of recovery from a damaging start to the season with a 4-2 win away to Heracles.
Jizz Hornkamp put Heracles in front in the 12th minute, before Manchester United target Brian Brobbey equalised four minutes later.
Ten minutes into the second half, Steven Berghuis put Ajax ahead, before a superb Brobbey strike looked to have sealed all three points for the visitors two minutes later.
However, Mario Engels pulled one back on the hour mark to set up a tense final 30 minutes.
Ajax’s tension was eased late on when Kristian Hlynsson bagged a fourth goal for the Amsterdam side in the closing stages of the game.
The win put Ajax level with fourth-placed AZ Alkmaar in the table, but AZ then moved a point clear of Ajax with a last-gasp equaliser in a 2-2 draw away at Heerenveen.
AZ went in front when the league’s top scorer Vangelis Pavlidis netted his 20th league goal of the season.
The joy was short lived though, as former Southampton midfielder Jordy Clasie scored an own goal to level things up.
AZ’s Denso Kasius was sent off in the 40th minute, leaving his side with 10-men with over a half of football to play.
Luuk Brouwers put Heerenveen ahead early on in the second half, as they looked to capitalise on their man advantage.
However, a defensive mix-up between goalkeeper Andries Noppert and Pawel Bochniewicz resulted in Heerenveen scoring an own goal late on to gift AZ a point.
